- DIED. Ethyl Eichelberger, 45, flamboyant, gender-bending
- performance artist; reportedly a suicide; in New York City.
- Eichelberger took on male and female roles with equal zest. A
- familiar denizen of Charles Ludlam's Ridiculous Theatrical
- Company in New York City, Eichelberger pranced and prowled
- through Greek tragedy, Shakespeare and Shaw. In his celebrated
- one-man condensation of King Lear (retitled Leer), he portrayed
- the King, the Fool and Cordelia, while accompanying himself on
- the accordion, concertina and piano. He could also turn
- cartwheels, eat fire and make his own wigs.
